Perfect for your child (or your inner child), the Pixar Play Parade in California Adventures is the way to go for a cheap and fun-filled afternoon. This whimsical event brings several new favorites to life, as well as a few older characters, leading to an enjoyable experience for the whole family.
Introduced in March of 2008, the parade features beloved characters from the Disney-Pixar movies. From 2011 to June of 2012, the parade was on hiatus due to construction in the park, but it has returned, and is better than ever. Guests will delight at the talent of acrobats, dancers, and puppeteers, as playful floats entertain. Running from the gates near the entrance to Hollywood, all the way to the Paradise Pier area, this parade route has room for thousands of spectators.
The entertainment begins with a group of monsters from the brand-new hit, Monsters University. Parade viewers can chant the fight song along with Mike Wazowski, Sulley and a slew of other students and cheerleaders. This lovable band is followed by the heroes that inspire us all: The Incredibles, floating on their own hovercrafts.
As a special treat, look for the Ratatouille float, for a food-themed surprise. While this unit does not run regularly, it is sure to please the little ones with Remy and his siblings hanging from the spaghetti adorned float.
The adventure continues with a party of friends from down under. The Finding Nemo performers aim to please, and with the upcoming opener of Finding Dory in 2016, this playful pack is sure to remain a hit. Another older Pixar success makes up the longest float in the parade. Featuring Flik, Atta, and Dot, the A Bug’s Life family is sure to draw a laugh.
Next the timeless favorite, Toy Story, will tug at your heartstrings as it reminds you of the magic of childhood. Featuring Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Jessie, and many more, the display they put on is sure to be a real crowd pleaser. With Slinky Dog pushing the float, the illusion of toys coming to life is one that any child would remember for a lifetime.
On days with good weather, parents might be advised to avoid the front row if your child would not enjoy the interactive water features. When the weather is reasonably poor, bubbles may replace the water effects for audience comfort. Cast members will always alert guests to these effects beforehand, in order to provide the best viewing experience for all.
This fantastic event occurs daily at 2 and 5 p.m., and spectators should expect to arrive up to 20 minutes early for best spots. However, decent views are generally available through the duration of the approximately 20 minute show, (around 45 minutes from entrance to exit of all floats). For an afternoon delight, ensure you get a park hopper pass in order to not miss this amazing display. As the longest parade route in any Disney park, the Pixar Play Parade in California Adventures is sure to be a major hit for children of all ages.
