A Pirate’s Life for Me (and you!)
If like most people you enjoyed the movie Pirates of the Caribbean with Johnny Depp, chances are that you also know that the movie was based on the Disneyland ride by the same name. But did you know that the popularity of the movie encouraged Disney to make changes to its already popular Pirates of the Caribbean ride? And if you’ve never taken advantage of the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction, it’s high time you bought yourself some cheap Disneyland tickets and see for yourself what all the hoopla is about!
A Short History of Pirates of the Caribbean
The popular Pirates of the Caribbean ride can be found not just at Disneyland but in the Magic Kingdom, Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Park in Paris. The original ride, however, was opened in Disneyland in 1967.
The construction and storyline of this unusually dark ride was the brainchild of Walt Disney himself though he didn’t live to see it open. And don’t discount the fact, it’s had many improvements. Over the years it has received a number of technological updates, but the main ride as well as its storyline has remained pretty much the same since its inception.
Today’s Pirates of the Caribbean
Since the first Pirates of the Caribbean movies came out all of the Disney theme parks where the Pirates of the Caribbean ride can be found have updated their rides to reflect the popularity of the movies. Now you can find Captain Jack Sparrow available for photo opportunities outside of the ride as well as a new feature; a side show attached to the main ride.
This show is called Captain Jack Sparrow’s Pirate Tutorial. It is (loosely) based on the series of Pirates of the Caribbean movies and spotlights Captain Jack Sparrow and his cohorts who teach the audience how to be a successful pirate.
The Pirates of the Caribbean Storyline
Many Disneyland rides are based on storylines; stories that unfold as you move through the ride. Pirates of the Caribbean is no different than the rest. But the story it tells is far darker than most Disney tales, but has remained popular in spite of its rather bloodthirsty theme.
It is the story of pirates; of a warning given of what pirates are capable of followed by being hurled down a fearsome waterfall into Dead Man’s Grotto where you come face to face with all manner of pirates and even get to watch as they battle thunderstorms and wreak havoc on unsuspecting cities in search of their pirate gold and for the treasure that continues to lure them on into a life that shuns normalcy.
