History of Frontierland


Frontierland is themed around the legendary American Old West of the 19th century. The 19th century cowboys and pioneers, saloons, red rock buttes and gold rushes are show the way that you see in major Hollywood films depicting the Wild West. You can find a Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and a stretch of riverfront in every instance of the Frontierland. There are many attractions in the Frontierland that will amuse you like the Big Thunder Mountain where they have thunder effects, the Country Bear Jamboree, Tom Sawyer Island and a steam-powered riverboat n which you can ride around the Frontierland Island.

Walter E. Disney himself described on the opening date of Frontierland in July 17, 1955 that in Frontierland one would experience the life and exiting stories of the Wild West. The west is an amazing blend of courage, romance and drama that have integrated itself into the present American culture. It’s a tribute to those pioneers who’s faith, courage and ingenuity that molded the 19 century west’s wilderness trails to roads and railroads and made commerce and development possible.

Frontierland is among one of the five original themed lands in Disneyland that has still maintained to keep up its charm and its ability to pull public to its attractions. If you can get cheap Disneyland Tickets for your family then you can use that to go around and enjoy the five original themed lands without any additional costs.

In its Opening date (July 17, 1955) Frontierland did not have many attractions, it only contained the wilderness of the west on a large landmass and the guest who visit Frontierland could travel through that on a stagecoach or pack mules. You can also use walking trails provided by the Frontierland to go around it. In 1960 the Mine Train was introduced, this Mine Train makes its ride around various western artificial landscapes. Most of this western landscape dioramas have been used in various hollywood movies of 1950.By 1977 the Mine Train attraction was closed to create a newer attraction; Big Thunder Mountain Railroad which was opened to the public in 1979.Another striking feature of Frontierland is that ponderosa pine logs were used in the construction of Frontierland gateway. You can also use the Frontierland’s long shoreline to watch the nighttime Fantasmic!. But in most cases you would find it hard to make it into the long shoreline which is along the Rivers of America because it’s a prime viewing location for the Fantasmic! and there would be a big crowd of visitors there. Having discount disneyland tickets can only take you that far, but if you can make their earlier before 7 then you can catch a spot along with your family and view nighttime Fantasmic! from there. In that case there are a lot of restaurants that serve great food in the shoreline; your family can also grab a bite from there if you reach there really early before the starting of the nighttime Fantasmic!


Robert Gray who was an 18th century American explorer circumnavigated the world in a ship, a replica of the ship Sailing Ship Columbia is located here in Frontierland. The Mark Twain Riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island in the river’s center also belong to the Frontierland’s vast property. Every building in

Disneyland’s Frontierland is designed in such a way to give a lot of detailed information of the west in the 19th century. Take the example of the roof of Westward Ho Trading Co where they hang the elk or deer antlers. Elk or deer antlers conveys the messages to the cowboys that fresh supply of it materials is available in general stores. You can also find a window in Crockett and Russel Hat Co storefront honoring Fess Parker (who played the role of Davy Crockett in Walt Disney’s Davy Crockett).Frontierland shares its borders with Fantasyland through the Big Thunder Trail.
